Podcast

Originally the Story Trails Podcast was going to solely host an audio series set in the enchanted world that features in most of my interactive live shows for families.

But that’s not how it ended up.

Instead, I found myself having opportunities to help young people develop their voices in podcasting, and Story Trails seemed like the obvious channel to host this content.

These days the podcast is a combination of things:

  • Forays into the enchanted world of Story Trails;
  • Showcases for special events and live shows;
  • An incredible range of episodes from equally incredible young people.

It’s a community podcast.

That’s what it’s become and that’s what it should be. And it delights me. One day I will create another channel for Tours in the Story Trails’ world. But this Story Trails channel is for everyone.

I hope you enjoy it even half as much as I do.

The Witch and the Haunted Hill Story Trails

Content Warning: this story is based on the recorded events of the so-called witch Mary Pannal.  It involves references to a child and his father dying, and to Mary being hung and burnt as a witch.Hello, Can You Hear Me? is an audio storytelling project that was funded by Wakefield Council as part of Our Year – Wakefield District 2024 It features ten folktales re-created by the storyteller, Beccy Dye. These were arranged on a period telephone which was then toured across the District. People simply dialled a number to reach a story, each story was broken up into parts, so if they wanted listens could create story mash-ups.The project included a live, family-friendly performance which launched the exhibition in each venue.Sounds Used in This EpisodeGhostly ambience: Ghostly Ambient Sounds by Antenalosmusic — https://freesound.org/s/731714/ — License: Creative Commons 0Campfire: Ambiance_Campfire_Loop_Stereo.wav by Nox_Sound — https://freesound.org/s/558967/ — License: Creative Commons 0Sad song: The Emptiness Inside Of Me by UNIVERSFIELD — https://freesound.org/s/700306/ — License: Attribution 4.0Coughing: cough by goldkelchen — https://freesound.org/s/371360/ — License: Creative Commons 0Timber breaking: Breaking Pieces of Wood Sound Effect Free High Quality Sound FX by deleted_user_7146007 — https://freesound.org/s/383347/ — License: Creative Commons 0Woodland ambience: Woodland Atmos 05 03-06-2022.wav by apintofmild — https://freesound.org/s/640188/ — License: Creative Commons 0Crows: Crows Bird Squawking Fight  by JackMenhorn — https://freesound.org/s/236307/ — License: Creative Commons 0Intro/Outro music for podcast episode: Folk Guitar Music Track by Dvideoguy — https://freesound.org/s/246315/ — License: Creative Commons 0Mentioned in this episode:Content Warning for The Witch and the Haunted Hill

Hope Travels

Hope Travels is a mini-series set in the human world that was created as part of WordFest 2021. Hope is a Boggle, a tiny creature from the enchanted place and she’s visiting the human world. But sometimes, it all seems far too big for a tiny boggle… Thankfully, a little hope can go a long way.

Written, acted and produced by Beccy Dye (nee Stirrup) of Story Trails, with original music by King Rich. Hope Travels was funded as part of WordFest and Festival of the Earth, led by Wakefield Council through Creative Wakefield until October 2021 across the Wakefield district.
